Items: Bop Basics Scoop Tee Dress, Gigi Favela Reema platform strappy sandal, Make-Up Designory Black Forest Eye Pencil, 2009 Chevy Malibu
When the DJ’s beats beckon, you want to make sure you arrive at the club in style. Start by slipping into Shop Bop’s Scoop Tee Dress in black. With its flattering shape and flirty hemline, it always looks fabulous with flat sandals or boots. Tonight, however, you want a towering perspective of the crowd, so opt for Gigi Favela’s Reema platform strappy sandals, whose soles feature (hooray!) Poron, an anti-shock material that will help keep your feet glued to the dance floor. A sultry, smoky eye will complete the look. Instead of been-there-done-that black liner, try Make-Up Designory’s Black Forest Eye Pencil. A rich metallic green is unexpectedly blended throughout. Got your keys? They can only a start a supremely stylish vehicle: the 2009 Chevy Malibu.

Girl Friday (Night)
items: Tart Belle top, Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadow, Laura Elizabeth Jewelry Linda Blue Jade Earrings, Chevy Malibu
As you head into the (eagerly anticipated) weekend, you want to feel feminine and sexy for drinks with friends. Decide on the Grecian-inspired “Belle” top from Tart, whose breathable jersey fabric guarantees you’ll stay cool if things heat up with that handsome stranger across the room. His opening line would be easy, given the pretty “Linda” blue jade earrings by Laura Elizabeth Jewelry you choose to wear. Their striking stones are set off by delicate 14-karat gold-filled wire, making them your go-to accessory when you want a special touch. About now, you’ll be thankful you chose a flirty, high-shimmer shadow that highlights your eyes, Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Eye Shadow in penny. Thanks to a long-wearing formula, the color will stay put for even the lengthiest of conversations. Want to impress him? Just drop the name of your favorite item on four wheels, the 2009 Chevy Malibu.

items: LTB Denim Superflare Jeans, Ola Hawaii lip balm in tropical melody, Jenny Yeun Sherlock handbag, 2009 Chevy traverse
There’s no time to waste, with kids to shuffle to practice, a kitchen’s worth of groceries to replenish and (most pressing) a closet in need of a new dress... or two. Still, you want to look chic while running all those errands, and LTB’s Denim Superflare Jeans surely fit the bill. They pair perfectly with a slim-fitting top, and off you go. Don’t forget to grab your Italian leather Sherlock bag by Jenny Yeun. Carry it like a satchel or wear it over your shoulder; either way, with three outside pockets, it’s ideal for stashing all the stuff a busy mom needs. Inside, you’ve tucked an Ola Hawaii lip balm in tropical medley, a moisture-rich formula made from a blend of big island beeswax, avocado, mango and more. You love its adorable woven packaging almost as much as its yummy flavor. Almost there? The ride’s been a cinch, of course, because the brood’s been nestled into your 2009 Chevy Traverse.

Atlanta
If anyone knows about hot spots, it’s got to be the Hot-lantans. Next time you head south, check out these hometown favorites.
Must-visit Boutique:
Evolve Boutique
1581 N. Decatur Rd.
Druid Hills, GA
404/474-3244
As its name implies, Joyce Justicz’s shop is purposely loaded with “repurposed” items (wallets and bags that designer Ashley Watson creates from one-time leather jackets, fanciful dresses from Zachary’s Smile featuring vintage silk scarf trims) as well as wares made from sustainable materials like bamboo and silk. There’s also premium denim aplenty, no doubt stocked with nearby Emory University students in mind.
One-stop Shoe Shop:
The SoShoelite
240 N. Highland Ave.
Atlanta, GA
404/525-2103
Owner Karen Turner features both emerging and established contemporary designers in her recently opened Inman Park boutique. Locals have quickly come to love her can’t-find-anywhere-else-in-Atlanta selection. Look for brands including Pour La Victoire, Shoes for Lovely People, Armand Basi, Marcello Toshi, Ras and more.
Music Mecca:
Wax N Facts
432 Moreland Ave. N.E.
Atlanta, GA
404/525-2275
Music fans will delight in this shop’s extensive offering of new and used CDs, cassettes and especially, vinyl. It’s a must-stop spot for fans of rhythm and blues, progressive and gothic, but don’t think other genres are short changed. A super-knowledgeable staff not only answers questions, but will also help novices navigate the crowded space.
Houston
It’s no wonder passionate shop owners continue to thrive deep in the heart of Texas. Be sure to check out their labors of love on your next trip through town.
Must-visit Boutique:
Frock Boutique
2609 Greenbriar St. #1
Houston, TX
713/521-9911
Proprietor Marianne Mayeux began Frock as a trunk-show-only enterprise, eventually landing in this welcoming downtown space. Beyond its trademark blue awning, Frock carries hipster faves (Castle Starr, Foley & Corinna) alongside beachy-chic lines (T-Bags, Scoop Beach). Duck in for the latest trends, served up with Marianne’s warm Southern charm. Or if you’re sticking to the ’burbs this trip, buy the goods online at shopfrock.com.
One-stop Shoe Shop:
Joseph
3930 Westheimer Rd.
Houston, TX
713/623-8034
For the most of-the-moment footwear, the well-heeled of Houston head to this sleek Highland Village shop. Upscale through and through, Joseph carries all top-tier designers such as Jimmy Choo, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Micahel Kors, as well as accessories chosen with sophisticated women in mind.
Music Mecca:
Sound Exchange
1846 Richmond Ave.
Houston, TX
713/666-5555
A hometown source for all things indie since 1977, this shop has gone through many permutations but now resides in an unassuming house. Co-owners Kurt and Kevin (no last names needed), who took over the shop from its original owner about a decade ago, believe in their mom-and-pop outfit so much, they declined paychecks for years to keep it alive. Thank them in person when you stop by to browse through racks brimming with new and used vinyl and CDs from indie bands, many of them local.
Los Angeles
More than anywhere else in the country, L.A. is the place where fashion meets rock and roll. When in (Tinsel) town, reserve lots of time for both pursuits, and don’t forget to hit up these hot spots.
Must-visit Boutique:
ecookie
1639 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA
310/392-2135
Orange County native Elaine Francisco (the “e” in ecookie) worked as an accessories editor at now-defunct teen mag YM, then freelanced as a market editor for a host of fashion publications while attending New York University for a degree in business. Returning to her hometown state, she combined her experiences and opened this bright, Asian-tinged boutique, filled with designers like Corey Lynn Calter, Rachel Pally and Park Vogel, on what’s become a super shopping strip in Venice. Stop by between 6 and 10 p.m. and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine while browsing the racks.
One-stop Shoe Shop:
Dewey
1108 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA
310/392-2974
Also located on Venice’s burgeoning boutique strip, Dewey exudes a rocker-glam vibe. Large white leather U-shaped benches anchor the hot-pink painted space and shoes from Hollywould, Jill Stuart, Missoni, Pollini and more are lined up on sleek white shelves. (Sharing the spotlight: bags from Anna Corinna and Gryson, as well as jewelry from Candace Ang and Jenna White.) Co-owners Maya Lieberman and Gretchen Patch, both former costume designers, scout their stock with knowledge of what’s so allover L.A., so shoppers can feel confident of original finds in their shop.
Music Mecca:
The Roxy Theatre
9009 W. Sunset Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90069
310/278-9457
A staple on West Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip, the Roxy opened 25 years ago and soon became the go-to spot for rock and roll in L.A., with Bruce Springsteen, Jane’s Addiction and Guns ’N Roses all performing on its famous stage. Today, the venue continues the tradition, welcoming up-and-comers across genres, indie faves and even comedic performers. For a drink, head upstairs to On the Rox, where drinks are served among a collection of photos featuring the most memorable performances.
Chicago
When it comes to style hot spots, a gale force has blown through the Windy City in recent years. Be sure to breeze by these high points next time you’re in town.
Must-visit Boutique:
Samantha Chicago
64 E. Walton St.
Chicago, IL
312/951-5383
With its black-on-white floral wallpaper and girly pink flourishes (shag rugs!), this boutique is reminiscent of your coolest friend’s bedroom. Step inside for owner Samantha Mittelman’s selection of clothing and jewelry, including names such as Vince, Lauren Moffatt and Kenneth Jay Lane. And if you can’t make the Gold Coast location, no worries: Sam also sells her wares online at samanthachicago.com.
One-Stop Shoe Shop:
Aberle Boutique
1101 W. Webster Ave.
Chicago, IL
773/477-1101
This Lincoln Park shoe-tique stepped onto the scene just this summer, but already it’s filled with footwear favorites like Sigerson Morrison, Loeffler Randall, Jean-Michel Cazabat and Cynthia Vincent. Owner Kira Price (middle name: Aberle) also stocks her corner spot with roomy handbags from the likes of Rebecca Minkoff and Bird, and jewelry from designers including Me & Ro and Andrea Forman.
Music Mecca:
Laurie’s Planet of Sound
4639 N. Lincoln Ave.
Chicago, IL
773/271-3569
CDs, LPs, DVDs and even VCR tapes abound at this Lincoln Square location with a staff so knowledgeable, they have to pass a major music quiz to secure the job. While the latest efforts from Beck, David Bowie and Nas are sure to be in stock, so too are releases from local Chicago bands and labels. Go for the thrill of finding a rare gem (crates are filled with lesser-known selections) or stop by with a particular album in mind-Laurie’s staff posts new arrivals on their blog (lauriesplanetofsound.tripod.com) a few times a week, so you’ll never have to guess what’s hot on the racks.
New York
The Big Apple is absolutely huge on both shopping and music. Here’s a just little taste of what you can expect.
Must-visit Boutique:
Suite Orchard
145A Orchard St.
New York, NY
212/533-4115
As children, Sonia and Cindy Huang would fight over which sis got to sew clothes for their Barbies. Now, after working for Chloé and Hugo Boss (Soni) and Diane Von Furstenberg (Cindy), the two have quite amicably come together to run this charming Lower East Side boutique, where their own collection, the aptly named Soni & Cindy, shares space with Loeffler Randall, Mona & Holly, Made Her Think, Rag & Bone and more.
One-Stop Shoe Shop:
Té Casan
382 W. Broadway
New York, NY
212/584-8000
If there is truly a shoe-lovers’ paradise, this is it, with three levels-and a whopping 7,500 square feet-dedicated to wonderfully unique footwear. Created by any one of six in-house designers who have logged time at the likes of Dries Van Noten, Versace, and Vivienne Westwood, each pair is limited edition-and numbered on the sole to prove it. Those opposed to leather will especially appreciate the posh spot’s selection of luxury vegan footwear, a collaboration with animal-loving actress Natalie Portman.
Music Mecca:
Highline Ballroom
431 W. 16th St.
New York, NY
212/414-5994
A performance by Lou Reed marked this venue’s opening last year. Since then, it’s played host to Mos Def, Amy Winehouse, Meshell Ndegeocello as well as many other up-and-coming and established acts. Look for Paul Weller, Everlast and Blue Rodeo to hit this intimate-feeling spot (capacity: just 700) this fall.
